Set in Johannesburg's upper class district. The Tycoon concept is a high end men's footwear and accessories store, inspired by Futurism and the principles of Ching where one is to expect the other unexpected. This store provides an immersive experience for customers through visual illusions of spaces, self service shoe try on zones and customary tailoring with an in house cobbler. FloorWorx in partnership with Greenside Design Center College of Design awarded this design first prize for innovative product use of FloorworX.
The Three Lounges
By providing comfortable seating areas encourages customers to stay a little longer in a store potentially encouraging their eyes to catch onto something desirable to purchase. However the various lounges in this store have particular functions.The yellow lounge is the lounge situated closest the in house cobbler, allowing for comfortable waiting space while the cobbler is at work on their purchases. The blue lounge is a general sitting space and a this kind of store may generally attract business men, a space to answer that business call is an added. Lastly the brown lounge is space to try on shoes, situated close to a full length mirror.
Exclusive Wear
Following Francis D.K. Ching's architectural method of space within space. This exclusive wear area forms part of the mezzanine level within the store. The transparentness of the space fits seamlessly into the space as a whole instead of as a separate entity.
