Framing Patterns is part of a year long Masters research project. Where the research was rooted in the linkage of culture and brand, through the exploration of the potential of two-dimensional patterns, using Starbucks South Africa as a case study, by drawing inspiration and understanding in South African Ndebele patterns . This series can be read from top to bottom. Where walled borders in which design drawings of floor plans and cross section are removed to convey the concept of patterns, while allowing for curiously and imagination of the spacial potential of a two-dimensional pattern together with highlighting the utmost importance of black and white in South African cultural patterns.By taking the outcomes from traditional South African Ndebele patterns I was able to develop a final design by the use of five key parametres making up South African pattern: Repetition, scale, two-dimensional shape three-dimensional space, black and white, layering and recurrence.
